Good Lord. I didn't realize how incestuous Typepad and Livejournal are getting.
I suppose that's only to be expected. Still, one should stop and think before they commit to fifty or ninety dollars a year with Typepad. I used to have a Typepad account (back before their big user-friendly mixed-media add-ons...whoop-tee-do). The only advantage I could see is you can put as many Typelists as you want on the sidebar, and insert thumbnails for books, cds, etc.
I do wish I could put some additional sideboxes on this layout, but I don't want to go through all the hassle of adding layers, et cetera.
The three column Bloggish layouts are identical to Typepad's. Again, the big difference is that with Typepad's underlying engine of Movable Type, you can arrange the sidebars any way you want.
On the other hand, Typepad doesn't have the f-list feature, or use icons.
I guess it's all what you want to do with a blog. After all, you can have your completely free Blogger site, and manipulate the coding to your heart's content. Personally, I don't have time to fiddle with code. I suppose I'm not a true blogger anyway, since I don't post every day. But I don't want to bleed out my fingers just for the sake of leaking red into cyberspace. I'd like to actually have something to say.
(Maybe this isn't really saying much, either, but I just went through all the Bloggish layouts one by one, and Typepad's oozing into LJ just struck me. So there.)
