I love being able to make my own CDs.
Now that I've got over three thousand songs on my computer, I could make one CD a month into eternity, it seems. Here is the track list of the one I made tonight. I didn't know what to call it, so it ended up being "Eclectic Mix."
"Harbor"--Vienna Teng
"City Hall"--Vienna Teng (One of the best singers/songwriters you've never heard of.)
"Three Hits"--Indigo Girls
"Incomplete"--Backstreet Boys
"Those Shoes"--Eagles (The original California snark.)
"Get Over It"--Eagles (My admiration for Don Henley's songwriting knows no bounds.)
"The Boys of Summer"--Don Henley (He also looks good riding around in the back of a truck for the video, lip-synching in the cold.)
"Running On Empty"--Jackson Browne (The 'guitar' solo doesn't sound at all like a guitar, but it's great.)
"Lightning Crashes"--Live
"Comfortably Numb"--Dar Williams (Surprise! This didn't seem like it would be a good fit at all, but she does a tremendous job with it.)
"On the Dark Side of Town"--Janis Ian
"Mockingbird"--Janis Ian
"Billie's Bones"--Janis Ian (A hidden treasure who's been around for thirty years.)
"No Second Chances"--Blackmore's Night (A rock/Renaissance cross, and darned if it isn't pretty good.)
"I Lost It"--Lucinda Williams (The best artist you've never heard of.)
"I Can Still Make Cheyenne"--George Strait (This tells one of the most ironical stories I've ever heard in a country song.)
I would say I'm getting old, but I also listen to Pandora a lot. That's where I discovered, among others, Lucinda Williams, Vienna Teng and Dar Williams. Also (lately) the Kennedys and Lucy Kaplansky.
